Only seven out of ten Austrians have a valid vaccination certificate

The protein vaccine Novavax, which has been available in Austria since the weekend, has been vaccinated eight times so far. This emerges from the daily vaccination statistics from the Ministry of Health, which reported the new vaccine for the first time on Tuesday. Novavax is intended to appeal in particular to people who have previously refused vaccination with the other, more modern active ingredients.

Vaccination greatly reduced

The number of vaccinations has recently plummeted. For last week, the vaccination statistics for Austria only show 3500 first vaccinations. Overall, only seven out of ten people in Austria still have a valid vaccination certificate. Whether the availability of a more “traditional” vaccine like Novavax will change that remains to be seen in the coming weeks.

Vaccination with Novavax will start this week in most federal states. This was already the case in Tyrol and Upper Austria at the weekend. So far there have been six vaccinations with this active ingredient in Upper Austria and two in Tyrol. In both federal states, one sting was a second vaccination.

More than 4,000 new infections have been recorded in Upper Austria since Wednesday. 403 people have to be taken care of in hospitals, 26 of them are in an intensive care unit. The state of Upper Austria reported five deaths yesterday, the youngest was a 63-year-old man from Braunau who had previous illnesses.
