Activists occupied Marcel Hirscher’s villa

The action was announced in the morning with an anonymous letter of confession by e-mail. The rally was initially peaceful.

Police counted about ten masked men handing out flyers and food while speeches were given from the balcony. The house itself was daubed with political slogans from the outside and hung with banners with messages directed against political parties and corporations. The Salzburg city police commander Manfred Lindenthaler confirmed to the ORF that there had been no significant incidents so far. The police said they would discuss how to proceed with the owner’s representative.

One protests against speculation with vacancies and the “capitalist exploitation of every area of life and thus also the basic need for living space”. The outwardly cosmopolitan city of Salzburg is geared too much towards tourism, ignoring the housing shortage and thus the problems of the residents.
