“Corpses are sometimes used as part of the prisoner exchanges and other times in exchanges for bodies of ukrainians“, said Anton Ivannikovaa captain in the military-civilian cooperation branch of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which is coordinating the effort.
“We are collecting all the documents, the credit cards, the tattoos and the DNA. Anything that will help us identify the body”assured Ivannikov, who also stressed that the bodies will travel in train to kyiv, where the team that negotiates the exchanges is located.
The recovery effort was made possible by Ukraine expelled the Russian Army from the villages of the Kharkov region. He largely left out of artillery range to the city of Kharkov, the second largest in the country.

In a recent recovery effort in the village of Bad Rohanjust east of the city of Kharkov, Reuters witnessed volunteers turn to ropes to drag the bodies of two Russian soldiers from a well among houses severely damaged by bombing.
At least one of the two had their hands tied, a sign – according to Ivannikov – that they might have been punished like dropouts. Reuters was unable to verify the circumstances of any of the deaths. Following, two volunteers wrapped the bodies in a white plastic sheeting and loaded them into a waiting ambulance.

A fourth body – one of 12 found in the town over three days – was removed from the basement of a woman’s house. “He was left alone when his fellow servicemen withdrew”Ivannikov said. And he added: “It most likely to commit suicide.
