Selenskyj wants to restore normal life in recaptured areas

Kyiv wants to focus on making rapid progress in the retaken areas. In his speech, Zelenskyi also indicated that in a video address to the United Nations on Wednesday, he would also call for the acceleration of arms deliveries and aid from other countries. “We are doing everything to ensure that Ukraine’s needs are met at all levels – defense, financial, economic, diplomatic,” he said.

According to Russian sources, seven people were killed in a Ukrainian attack on a village in Luhansk. The Russian news agency Tass, citing the authorities deployed there by Russia, reported that the attack was aimed at Krasnorichenske. The place is located between the cities of Svatove and Sjewerodonetsk. Nearby runs one of the few remaining main supply lines from the Russian border region of Belgorod.

Ukrainian soldiers are now advancing further east into territory abandoned by Russian troops. Ukrainian governor of the Russian-controlled Luhansk region, Serhiy Hayday, wrote on Telegram that the armed forces had regained full control over the Luhansk village of Bilohorivka and were preparing to fight to recapture the entire province. It will be fought for every inch: “The enemy is preparing his defense, so we will not just march in.”

From the Cherson region in the south of the country, Ukrainian troops reported the sinking of a barge. Russian troops used it to try to transport troops and equipment across a river near Nowa Kakhovka. “Attempts to build a pontoon bridge failed to withstand the shelling of Ukrainian forces and were abandoned. The barge … became an addition to the occupier’s submarine force,” the military posted on Facebook.

According to British intelligence services, Russia has withdrawn its Kilo-class submarines from the annexed Ukrainian Black Sea peninsula of Crimea because of the risk of Ukrainian attacks. The ships of the Black Sea Fleet had been relocated from their home port of Sevastopol to the southern Russian port of Novorossiysk, it said in London. The Kilo class are conventionally powered submarines mostly from the 1980s. The Russian Black Sea Fleet is traditionally based in Crimea.

The reason for the transfer is most likely that the Ukrainian ability to attack at longer distances has increased and the security situation in Crimea has therefore changed, it said in London. “In the past two months, the fleet headquarters and its main airfield have been attacked.”
