Little Mia as the Mühlviertler Christkind

Little Mia as the Mühlviertler Christkind

Shortly before midnight, the service team from the St. Veit local office, Christina Stumptner and Jakob Stelzer, were alerted to a transport to the birth. Arriving at the site, however, it quickly became clear that this was out of the question. “While Jakob was preparing the stretcher, I went into the house to find out what was going on,” says the paramedic. With a strong “Come on, that’ll never work out,” she managed to get her colleague to come along with the appropriate material. Shortly thereafter, Mia was already in the world.

The fact that barely ten minutes passed between the arrival of the rescue team and the birth shows how quickly everything happened. After first aid, the baby was transported to Rohrbach hospital together with the mother and accompanied by the emergency doctor from Zwettl, who was alerted afterwards. The family of four is now back home.

“We recently had the subject of childbirth at the university,” reports Jakob, who, like Christina, is studying medicine in the first semester. “It was surprising that I experienced this in practice so quickly. Both agree that a birth at Christmas is something extraordinary, also for the paramedics.
