Flachau is looking for its “Slalom Queen” again

Flachau is looking for its “Slalom Queen” again

There is absolutely no doubt that the floodlit slalom will be held tonight (6/8.45 p.m./live ORF 1), emphasized race director Martin Traninger. For the 30th anniversary on the Hermann Maier World Cup course he announces a ski festival like back then. 15,000 spectators are expected.

Since the World Cup premiere on December 22, 1993, there have been 31 more events for women and men. In 2010, after a six-year absence from the World Cup, Flachau created a unique selling point in the women’s circus with the night slalom. The population has always lent a hand. “Of the 50 marshals, 45 are from Flachau. That’s really cool for such a small town,” emphasized Traninger.

In terms of sport, the continuation of the Mikaela Shiffrin show is expected. The US ski star is only one win away from being the sole record holder for women’s World Cup successes ahead of compatriot Lindsey Vonn (82). In any case, with four Flachau victories, Shiffrin is the record winner and record clearer in terms of prize money. The highest prize money of the season awaits the winner again this year with 66,037 euros. Shiffrin also has a “home field advantage”, her outfitter Atomic has its test track here.
