It was a perfect start for Leona Berger (15) from WLU Fischlham. At the U17 Waterski World Championships in San Bernardo (Chile), the strobler jumped 40.20 meters onto the podium. In addition, the runner from WLU Fischlham got a top result with her second personal best as seventh in the slalom and was also seventh in the combined ranking.
“I can hardly believe that I won bronze. It was my first jump over 40 meters,” said Berner. It was her second personal record on the final day and she was very proud of the result, the 15-year-old continued. “I knew that a medal could be a possibility, but I still didn’t expect it.” Previously, the Fischlham athlete surprised with 2.5 buoys on the 12-meter rope in the slalom and took seventh place. “I felt very comfortable on the skis and was able to concentrate well before and while skiing,” says Berner, who was not entirely happy with her trick result. “Unfortunately that was a disappointment. I fell on my first trick and I didn’t ski very well in the second program either. In 32nd place I missed the chance of a better combined result.” But the vault bronze medal was a good consolation.
