Demonstrations are planned today in Vienna and Linz against the high electricity and gas prices. 30 registered demo participants want to move from 11 a.m. from the Taubenmarkt via Energie AG to the headquarters of Linz AG on Wiener Strasse. The Messenger service Telegram advertises the “protest march”, which also calls for the abolition of the “merit order system”.
The Linz police will accompany the demonstration, but no large-scale operation is to be expected, according to the press office of the LPD Upper Austria. The State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counter-Terrorism monitors the rally.
Linz AG reacted to the announced campaign in a broadcast in the morning: It was the cheapest provider in the supply area, and there was no increase in energy tariffs at the turn of the year.
