During a traffic check on the A3 at the Donautal-West rest area around 25 kilometers before the border crossing in Suben, investigators from the Passau border police inspection discovered a large sum of cash hidden in the back of a car.
During the further search of the vehicle and the 47-year-old driver, who stated that he was on his way to Austria, further hidden bundles of money were found, according to the police in a broadcast. The man was carrying around $400,000 in cash. A drug test also came back positive. Among other things, proceedings were initiated against the man on suspicion of money laundering. The cash was secured. According to the police, this suspicion was further substantiated after a house search in the German state of Hesse. The criminal police inspectorate of Lower Bavaria and the public prosecutor’s office in Passau are investigating the man.
