The ground-breaking ceremony took place yesterday, and the premises are to be occupied in 2025: Wels-based Richter Pharma AG is expanding its veterinary pharmaceutical production. “The corona crisis in particular has shown how important local pharmaceutical production and the associated higher degree of autonomy are. This applies to veterinary medicine as well as to human medicine,” said CEO Roland Huemer.
For the owner Florian Fritsch, this expansion step by 35 million euros represents “an important milestone in the more than 400-year history of the company”. For the company, the expansion is a lighthouse project that illustrates the connection with Upper Austria as a business location.
The relatively long construction period is explained by the technical equipment, the long delivery times of the bottling plant and the necessary acceptance by the authorities. According to a media release, sustainability was also taken into account when planning the building. The building will be connected to district heating.
The Mayor of Wels, Andreas Rabl, was present at the ground-breaking ceremony and is pleased that the company “is setting a central milestone in its development in Wels and is thus upgrading the location”. Provincial Governor Thomas Stelzer emphasized the national importance, which he interpreted as a “clear commitment to Upper Austria as a location for business and employment”.
