In the past, Oberbank General Manager Franz Gasselsberger always avoided the dance floor at balls and other events – and when he danced, it was always with great reluctance, as he says. “Because I had never learned waltz, rumba, cha-cha-cha or quickstep, it was just not fun for me.”
Thanks to a present he gave his wife Gerti for Christmas a year ago, he will be dancing at the OÖ Nachrichten gala night of sport next Friday.
“Since then we have been enthusiastic students of Alexander Kreissl in the Linz Dancing World, where we train diligently – if time permits, even twice a week.” Not only practiced in the dance school, but also at home.
“You can’t become a master on the dance floor without consistent training,” says the Oberbank general director, who supports the gala night of sports in the OÖ Nachrichten as the main sponsor.
“This training at the dance school is incredibly good for me. By concentrating on the sequence of steps you forget everyday work. You strengthen your balance and then feel very, very good,” says Gasselsberger. His favorite dances now include the English waltz, the rumba and the quick step, in which the Gasselsberger couple are still working on perfecting the figures.
“Of course, as a couple, we also enjoy the time together.” There are never any discussions. “When it comes to dancing, it’s clear that the man is the boss – after all, it’s the man who leads. There’s no discussion.”
Fit again after an accident
In any case, the Oberbank general will use the gala night for “training”. Because the ball season is still long – “and after a small accident I’m fit again. I’m running every day again,” he says.
Next week the Gasselsbergers are going on a skiing holiday, after which they’ll be right back from the slopes to the dance floor in Linz. “Then it’s the KV ball – and we’ll practice hard here too,” says the general director, who wants to make the best moves, especially in the quick step.
Star guests on January 20th
In 2023, the Sports Gala Night will celebrate a big comeback on January 20th in the Brucknerhaus. The traditional event, which is organized by OÖ Nachrichten together with LIVA and main sponsor Oberbank, is the highlight of the Linz ball calendar with its mix of sports, festivals and music. Star guests include Andi Goldberger, Hans Krankl and the band “Folkshilfe”. The proven moderator duo Silvia Schneider and Tom Walek will lead through the evening.
Tickets are available at www.brucknerhaus.at and at Ö-Ticket.
