The OAS will be absent from the CELAC summit

The president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, confirmed that he will attend the meeting. His arrival in the country is expected this afternoon and then he will hold a bilateral meeting with Lula.

Also the Cuban Miguel Díaz-Canel, although not the Nicaraguan Daniel Ortega, which he sends to his chancellor. The star will be the recently inaugurated president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

There is a precedent: at the CELAC 2021 summit, held in Mexico, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador had decided not to include Luis Almagro on the guest list, in September of that year.

Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero had already declined Almagro’s invitation at the time, for the meeting of foreign ministers that was held in Buenos Aires last October, where it was finally decided not to include him for the meeting on Tuesday, January 24.
