There they are again: The “Guardians of Time” by the artist Manfred Kielnhofer are back in Linz. As reported several times, there were many debates about the sculptures in the previous year – these were triggered by the discovery of an anti-Semitic Internet posting by the artist.

“Works by anti-Semitic artists literally have no place in our city – especially not in comparison with the Covid 19 pandemic,” said Mayor Klaus Luger (SP) at the time. Steyr had previously announced that it would remove its guards (they are owned by the city) from public space and store them in the depot.

But it took a while before the guard figures in front of the Brucknerhaus in Linz, and thus from the city, had disappeared. Several requests and a letter from the city attorney to Kielnhofer finally had an effect. The figures on the other side of the Danube, at the bottom of the viadonau, were also removed.

City has no handle

The figures that can now be seen in Auwiesen on Wüstenrotplatz in front of the shopping center there are not on municipal but on private land, as City Councilor Dietmar Prammer (SP), who is responsible for real estate, confirms to OÖN. The city therefore has no control over the setting up of said figures, and they are still not given any space on public land.

The guards had already been talked about before the posting cause, they were repeatedly targeted by vandals.
