At around 8:00 a.m., roads were blocked at Praterstern and Döblinger Gurtel. Members also climbed onto an overhead signpost on Vienna’s south-east tangent (A23) in the Praterbrücke area and unfurled a banner. Traffic could continue to flow there, said police spokeswoman Barbara Gass.
The unregistered gatherings at the Praterstern and the Döblinger Belt were soon broken up by the emergency services, the state police headquarters tweeted. There were temporary additional traffic delays in early traffic. The protest action on the overhead signpost of the city motorway lasted at least the morning, the police confirmed. The four activists who had glued themselves to the construction above the busiest road in Austria in the morning were still there at midday. “The police were present but deliberately left them behind,” wrote the “Last Generation” on Twitter.
Assault filmed
In addition, according to the group, during the blockade action on the Belt, an activist who had blocked a lane was attacked. The environmentalist was dragged away by a road user and hit in the abdomen. A video of the incident was also posted on Twitter.
The “Last Generation” criticized in a broadcast that there had been “no political reaction to the demand for a speed limit of 100 and a stop to new oil and gas drilling” for a week. The group was supported on Monday by architects who followed a call from IG Architektur and stood in solidarity behind the environmentalists.
