Car traffic in Spain: how was the illegal circuit
The investigation began when authorities detected signs that the port was being used to smuggle stolen luxury vehicles into the United States.said the security body in a statement.
The Civil Guard suspects that the stolen vehicles were destined for African countries. The 24 cars, valued at more than 2 million euros ($2.1 million)were returned to the United States, “with whose authorities they are collaborating in order to continue with the investigations,” the statement added.
The recovered cars included several high-end Aston Martins and SUVs.
The international police cooperation organization Interpol considers that the trafficking of stolen vehicles often serves to finance other criminal activities, such as drug, arms or people trafficking.
