Summerau station is about to undergo extensive modernization. As announced by ÖBB, around 11.4 million euros will be invested in upgrading the infrastructure by October 2023. Among other things, the platform will be raised to enable barrier-free, stepless boarding and alighting. This means that people with restricted mobility will be able to comfortably board local trains in the future. The new platform will also be equipped with a new waiting berth to offer travelers a comfortable stay even in inclement weather. New monitors on the platform will inform travelers in real time about all arrival and departure times.
Making the Summerauerbahn more attractive
The approximately 61-kilometer-long railway line between Linz and Summerau has established itself as an alternative to the road for both commuters and leisure travellers. Since 2017, ÖBB has been working on a station offensive along the Summerauerbahn in order to convince even more people to switch to the train with more attractive stations and stops in the future.
“Environmentally friendly mobility for customers is the focus of day-to-day work at ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG. In order to be able to address even more passengers in the future, we want to make rail travel even easier and more comfortable,” says Judith Engel, Board Member of ÖBB-Infrastruktur. According to Infrastructure Provincial Councilor Günther Steinkellner, the infrastructure package in Upper Austria is also an important part of a modern mobility offer in rural areas. Rainbach’s mayor, Günter Lorenz, is also looking forward to the many advantages of the redesigned station: “This means that a long-standing concern of our community can be implemented. Modern, barrier-free and safe access to public transport is the be-all and end-all.”
Three weeks no stop in Summerau
Due to modernization, no trains will stop at Summerau station between March 18 and April 10. Travelers to and from Summerau are transported by rail replacement buses according to the special timetable. If you want to travel from Summerau in the direction of the Czech Republic, you can take a rail replacement bus in the direction of Freistadt and change to the train there. For travelers with destination Zummerau coming from the Czech Republic, there is a rail replacement service from Freistadt to Summerau.
