Yvonne Weidenholzer also emphasized that hunting is often in a state of tension and is becoming more difficult due to a wide variety of influences, from recreational use to climate change: The district governor – herself a passionate hunter – also pointed to the good understanding and mutual trust between the hunters, landowners and authorities in the area Ried district.
The shooting plans for roe deer were more than fulfilled in the past hunting year with 113 percent. 4385 deer were shot, almost 500 more than a year earlier. When it comes to wild boar hunting – not least in connection with African swine fever – and when it comes to wolves, hunters and farmers must work together to steer developments in the right direction.
18 areas more leased
More than 900 hunters are active in the Ried district, in 36 cooperative hunting grounds and twelve private hunts. 18 districts are newly leased this year. In this hunting year, 57 wild boar, around 4100 hares, almost 1200 pheasants, 1500 wild ducks and more than 400 foxes were hunted.

What the future of hunting looks like as a whole will ultimately be decided by society, according to State Hunters’ Master Herbert Sieghartsleitner at the District Hunters’ Day in Ried. His appeal: “Every hunter must be an ambassador and ensure with their own appearance that hunting is perceived competently and sympathetically. Hunting is not a tolerated fringe group, but a vital part of society – especially in the Ried district!”
