The Colorado Ethics Committee received the release of Adrián Peña

Peña continues with the transition of command to the new Minister of the Environment, Robert Bouvier. That is why this Monday, he met with President Luis Lacalle Pou to continue discussing portfolio issues that are still pending under his command. On the other hand, Peña plans to take a few days off in March to finish his studies since the former minister believes it is necessary to return to the Senate with his university degree finished.

What are the possible sanctions against Peña?

The ethics committee is made up of Alberto Brause, Jaime Sapolinski – from the Citizens coalition –, Graciela Rompani, Yamandu Fau – Batllistas – and Maria Elisa Etchamendy, who belonged to Carolina Ache’s list and disassociated herself after the resignation of the vice chancellor.

The possible sanctions for Peña – which the commission assumes will happen, although they do not take seriousness into account – are a warning, the suspension of affiliation, a censorship that generates partisan discredit, the request for resignation either removal of the charges held on behalf of the party or the expulsion of the party, as established in the organic charter in its article 139.

From the commission’s decision – which has up to a month to solve it, although it can be extended only once – the CEN will convene the Convention within fifteen days and it will have another fifteen days to make the decision. If you want to expel Peña, will be necessary two thirds of the votes.

These actions are marked by the charter since Peña had three complaints (one from a leader and two from groups). Among the complainants is the group Corriente Constructora, Agrupación Libertad and the National Director of Energy, Fitzgerald Cantero.
