The accidents happened on Thursday between 4:45 p.m. and 4:50 p.m. on the A1 near Mondsee in the direction of Vienna.
The truck driver from the Kirchdorf district and a 45-year-old Serbian citizen were involved in the first accident. Due to the driving style of the truck driver in the construction site area, the Serb had to swerve his car to the left and as a result collided with the temporary concrete central guardrail.
In the second accident, the truck driver said he was cut by another car, which caused him to leave the road and come to a standstill in the green verge. According to the 37-year-old, the driver involved then fled. The truck’s diesel tank was damaged in this accident, causing a large quantity of diesel to seep into the ground.
The section of the A1 had to be closed and diverted for several hours so that the truck involved in the accident could be recovered by a specialist company from Salzburg. The contaminated soil was removed by a contracted earthworks company under the supervision of the hydrographic service of the Upper Austrian provincial government.
