Around 20 steps lead down to the boards that mean the world. At least for the Linz Theater Club. Because in the basement of Mozartstraße 17, the hobby becomes reality on stage at the Theater Scenario until the end of March.
They’re amateur actors who have brought countless plays to life for a whopping 63 years. Because this year the non-profit association, founded in 1960, started its 63rd season.
“We’ve experienced a lot and often played against the wind,” says club motor Erhard Ferchenbauer, who lent a hand in expanding the stage even though it’s only rented there. “Yes, dear money,” says Ferchenbauer and sighs. Because financially it is often tight and everything has to be “earned”.
The entrance ticket costs 25 euros. Lust, love and passion and sometimes even murder are extras. The ensemble is currently playing “12 o’clock noon”, a comedy thriller with the ingredients love and medicine. There’s not just one (invisible) corpse, there are actually two, and that’s in a retirement home.

The inspector’s name in real life is Peter Froschauer and he is an IT manager. The residence director Frau von Greifenstein is Isolde Weberberger, who is head of marketing for the hotel marketing platform Connex off the stage. Helga Zettl embodies the clever nurse Ludmilla. And many other actors also play on a voluntary basis. According to Ferchenbauer, 36 rehearsals had to be mastered before it could be determined on stage.
The premiere last Saturday was something very special, because it was also a world premiere. The author Sabine Layh traveled from Stuttgart especially for this purpose. “How did we manage it?” was the anxious question afterwards. “It’s fantastic,” says Sabine Layh.
“12 noon”
Every Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., the Linz Theater Club will be performing the crime comedy “12 noon” in the “Scenario” in the basement at Mozartstraße 17 in Linz up to and including March 31.
