Harry Höll reported 30 centimeters of fresh snow yesterday morning. Born in Obertraun, he is not a meteorologist, but as the landlord of the Dümlerhütte he also keeps an eye on the weather for his guests. Not only at 1495 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Warscheneck and high above Roßleithen, did winter snow over this weekend. There were eight centimeters of fresh snow at Mondsee, and at least five in the Windischgarsten basin. The flakes in the central room vanished as quickly as they fell.
“Especially in the southern mountains, there was at least supplies for the thin snow cover,” says Claudia Riedl. She is actually a meteorologist at Geosphere Austria (formerly ZAMG) and needs sunglasses to see the coming days: high pressure weather is on the way.
There are still a lot of clouds in the sky today, but not much will happen “apart from a few flakes,” says Riedl. Temperatures only reach three degrees, but will already double on Tuesday. At six degrees, it’s perfectly sunny, “at a place sheltered from the wind it feels even warmer,” says Riedl. Because the east wind becomes a troublemaker. He reaches peaks of up to 50 km/h on Wednesday, the temperatures of seven degrees are “typical for the beginning of March”.
On the second day of the new month it will remain sunny at seven degrees, while Thursday will be a touch warmer at eight degrees. “On Friday it should be over with the wind,” says the meteorologist.
Possibly also with the high-pressure weather: A cold front is announced. However, it is not certain whether she will actually hit Upper Austria. March winter or spring? Everything is possible.
