“We young people don’t feel that our state government takes us seriously. At a time when limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees is already considered unlikely and we can no longer deny the extent of the catastrophes due to the climate crisis, Upper Austria continues to rely on fake climate protection”says Elisabeth Steiner, 16-year-old student and activist at Fridays For Future Linz.
The symbolic start of the climate strike at the main train station is planned for 12:07 p.m. The motto: 7x-7%. “It will only be possible to achieve the EU climate targets if greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by seven percent per year with immediate effect. We all know that acting irresponsibly at the expense of future generations must not be an alternative,” says Lea Moser (17), who is also involved with Fridays for Future.
The final rally takes place after the demo procession through downtown Linz at Landhausplatz. As some schools have declared the strike to be a school-related event, many participants are expected.
