Auder considers tenders for renewable energy parks urgent

Diego Oronodirector of AUDER, questioned the country’s renewable energy capacity and explained that renewable energy plants have not been added for more than five years, which caused the national energy balance to go from 95% to 80%. In addition, he remarked that the consumption of electrical energy grows between a 2% and 3% annually.

That is why from the association they insist that the tenders for renewable energy plants begin urgently since the Uruguayan Association of Renewable Energies had already announced that important companies such as Google and Amazon They had plans to settle in the country. This would represent almost 10% of the energy since offices, warehouses and data centers would be installed.

In the same sense, from UTE they remarked that the priority will be the incorporation of more photovoltaic energy, to be followed by wind turbines and solar thermal modules. In addition, they established that contracts were being considered Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) – which are a long-term clean energy purchase and sale agreement from a specific asset and at a pre-fixed price between a renewable developer and a consumer – where they would bid 100 MW solar modules until 2030 and that this 2023 would begin the planning process to establish on which mechanism it would be carried out.

How is electricity composed in Uruguay?

Until this year, 38% is made up of wind power. This is followed by the thermal based on fossil fuels with 24%. Third, there is the hydraulic energy – which was greatly compromised by the drought – with 17%. This is followed by imports with 10%, the biomass with 7% and, finally, the photovoltaic with 4%.
