“We won’t put up with that,” says a resident at the OÖN local inspection in Lunzerstrasse in view of the driven excavators. Opposite the “Gasthaus zum Hochofen” a piece of land is being cleared, apparently to build a container village for 50 asylum seekers. At least that’s what Mayor Klaus Luger (SP) said he was told by the office of Provincial Councilor Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer (VP). Luger rejects the quarter and has also expressed this in a negative statement from the city. But he has no handle. “The country will obviously pull this off,” says Luger in an interview with OÖ Nachrichten.

Luger demands fair distribution

It is clear and correct that the municipalities have to take in refugees. “But if Provincial Councilor Hattmannsdorfer and Governor Thomas Stelzer demand a fair distribution of refugees in Europe, then that should also apply to Upper Austria.” Linz would have an above-average proportion of people in the asylum process. In addition, about half would move to Linz after the procedure was completed. “Hattmannsdorfer should start with solidarity on a small scale,” said Luger. Especially since integration works better in smaller communities.

FPÖ wants to introduce a resolution

A “clear no” also comes from Security City Councilor Michael Raml (FP). “As the incidents of the last few months have confirmed, we already have a massive integration and security problem in Linz,” said Raml. More asylum quarters in the state capital would above all exacerbate the existing problems. The FPÖ wants one in the next municipal council meeting Submit a resolution against the quarter in Lunzerstraße to Hattmannsdorfer and Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner (VP).

Provincial Councilor Hattmannsdorfer had not yet received a statement this afternoon.
