2.53 million hectoliters of wine were harvested in Austria last year: the harvest was two percent above the five-year average and three percent higher than 2021: These are the figures given by Statistics Austria.

The development of both white and red wine was positive: the white wine harvest, which in Austria is always higher than the red wine harvest, remained at the 2021 level in 2022, but rose by two percent to 1.74 million compared to the five-year average hectoliters. 788,600 hectoliters of red wine were harvested: That is eight percent more than in 2021 or one percent more than the five-year average.

The most important wine-growing state is Lower Austria: 1.61 million hectoliters were harvested there. The harvest was one percent below last year’s production. White wine accounted for 1.26 million hectoliters. With 13,163 hectares, around half of the wine-growing area in Lower Austria is in the Weinviertel. A good third of the total Austrian quantity is harvested there. The yield is higher in each case than in the other important wine-growing states of Styria and Burgenland. Due to the climate, Burgenland is the only federal state in which more red than white wine is harvested.

In Upper Austria, the harvest is around 5000 hectoliters. 72 companies or people in our federal state have planted vines, the cultivation area covers around 80 hectares.
