According to the Amstetten district command, the “fire was out” shortly after 2 a.m. According to APA information, the owner of the property may have committed suicide in connection with the fire. He was struck by a train on the nearby Westbahn route. Police investigations were ongoing.
“Heute” and ORF Lower Austria first reported online about the nightly fire and the incident on the western route. The eight fire brigades were alerted shortly before 11 p.m. on Thursday. According to a broadcast from the district command, the flames had already spread and were widely visible when approaching.
The helpers started an inside and outside attack. The firefighters gained access to the roof using scaling ladders and a turntable ladder, and at times a ceiling threatened to collapse. Several respiratory protection teams were on the spot.
“At the beginning of the operation, the situation was still relatively unclear and people were being looked for in the fire object. An adjacent building also had to be extinguished, which could be protected,” reports operations manager Johannes Stöffelbauer from the Pinnersdorf volunteer fire brigade. In the early morning, post-extinguishing work was underway.
