The 7,767 units in the first two months marked an increase of 11% over the same period last year.
According to data reported by the Automotive Trade Association of Uruguay (ACAU), the sale of 0 km vehicles grew by 6% YoY last month. The 7,767 units sold in the first two months they established an increase of 11% compared to the 6,996 that were placed in the same period of 2022.

In February there was also an increase in sales for the eighth consecutive monthwith 3,772 units transacted, where the category of automobiles continued to lead shipments with 1,469 units, despite registering a year-on-year decline of 9.9%.


In turn, the businesses completed in the segment of utilitythey shot a 27.2% year-on-year after 1,197 units were sold, of which 925 were SUVs, an increase of 13.2% compared to the same period last year. The truck segment did not have a greater variation with respect to the same height of the previous year, and 162 new units were dispatched.
ACAU registered the best first semester since 2018after what was already a 2022 that produced figures that positioned it as the best year in more than five years, with consumers mainly motivated by the decline in the price of the dollar.
The sale of electric vehicles was a record in 2022
The ACAU indicated the sale of electric vehicles increased by 90.33% in 2022 compared to 2021, almost double. In the breakdown by segments, cars of this type were the ones that increased the most in a 153.63%.
During 2022, a total of 1,043 electric vehicles compared to the 548 sold in 2021. Of the total shipments last year, 629 of them were automobiles, meaning 60.31% of these. SUVs reported sales of 224 units, a share of the total of 21.48% and an increase of 72.31% compared to 130 units in 2021.
In utility vehicles, there was an increase of 24.43% compared to the previous year with some 163 units, compared to 131 placed in 2021. This category represented 15.63% of annual sales. On the other hand, the only segment that fell -30.77%- in the comparison with 2021 was that of electric trucks, since in 2022 only 27 were sold, compared to 39 units the previous year.
