A truck driver who was transporting 18 tons of sand wanted to drive onto the B125 Freistädter Straße in the town of Innertreffling around 3 p.m. on Wednesday. But when turning into the intersection, he may have overlooked a cyclist. The 39-year-old was on the main road with her racing bike coming from Mittertreffling in the direction of Gallneukirchen.
According to a police report, she was run over by both rear axles of the van. Following road users tried to provide first aid and to revive the woman until the rescue arrived. But the emergency doctor could only determine the death of the 39-year-old.
Investigations into negligent homicide on the road were initiated against the truck driver. The alcohol test for the 57-year-old was negative. A forensic autopsy of the body was ordered.
