There are already companies interested in operating at the Rivera binational airport

Juan José Olaizola, undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, announced that the terminal will be modernized and will have the latest technology.

The undersecretary of Ministry of Transport and Public Worksyes, Juan Jose Olaizolahighlighted the importance of the binationality of the Rivera Airport between Uruguay and Brazil and announced that there are already airlines interested in operating the air terminal.

According to Olaizola, Brazil does not have an airport of these characteristics in 300 kilometers. “Being binational, it is as if it were an airport in Uruguay or Brazil, it solves a lot,” explained the official. “Rivera has a privileged location,” he said in an interview with Radio Sarandí.

“The Rivera airport is within the framework of the national system of International Airports that have been granted to the group America Corporation which is the one that manages the Carrasco and Laguna del Sauce Airports”, explained Olaizola who added that the airport will be modernized and will have the latest technology to be able to operate.

The undersecretary announced that there are already companies interested in operating at the airport. “It has already aroused interest from a regional airline to be able to operate,” Olaizola remarked. According to the undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, two possibilities open up at the airport: passenger transport, but also cargo transport.

It seems to Olaizola that an interesting panorama opens up quite quickly because in 30 days he agreed that the legal framework was going to be prepared with Brazil to give the airport binationality. “I think we can open up a range of development opportunities for the airport and for that region of the country,” he added.
