The most expensive house in Great Britain is for sale in London: “The Holme”, a more than 200-year-old mansion, is located in the middle of Regent’s Park in London, directly on a lake. Previously, it belonged to a Saudi Arabian prince. But now the house is being sold, according to The Times and Financial Times newspapers.

The hoped-for revenue is up to £250 million, which is the equivalent of around EUR 280 million. If you have that much money on the high edge, you get a plot of around 18,000 square meters and a house with 2700 square meters of living space. The house was built in 1818 and used to belong to the University of London.

According to the Times, a Kuwaiti investor bought it in 1984 for what is now a paltry sum of five million pounds – which, however, was a record price at the time. Four years later it changed hands for three times the amount. Sultan bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, former crown prince and defense minister of Saudi Arabia, is said to have paid £15 million.

His grandson Abdullah bin Khalid al-Saud is the country’s representative at the United Nations in Vienna and ambassador to Austria – and according to the land register, he is now the owner together with other family members. But probably not for long: According to the Financial Times, a loan of around 150 million pounds, which the owners had secured with the London mansion, among other things, recently expired – without it being repaid or replaced by a new loan. The house fell to insolvency administrators, who have now commissioned two brokers to sell it.

The home has 40 bedrooms, a grand dining room, library, hot tub, eight garages and luxury elevators.
