This week the call for census takers begins

The National Statistics Institute (INE) will hire between 7,000 and 10,000 people to carry out the census.

This week will open the call to employ between 7,000 and 10,000 census takers from all points of the Uruguay for the census that will begin in April, where they could pay up to 30,000 pesos per person.

From the National Statistics Institute (INE) , announced that this week the call for census takers will begin where between 7,000 and 10,000 people will be hired. The director of the INE, Diego Aboal, remarked that it is a requirement to have completed the third year of high school, although it will be carried out by selection according to the educational level.

The payment will be a fixed remuneration of $15,000, but it will be complemented with another piecework payment, that is, depending on the work done, which will depend on the number of homes and people registered. The preset amount arose from the number of days worked and depends on the location and size of the city to be censused. To this fixed amount, if 25 days are worked, another $15,000 would be added, achieving a total of $30,000.

On the other hand, INE announced that the precensus, which began in mid-February, “advances at a very good pace” and that it is getting closer to closing. In addition, they remarked that they approached the 86% of verified areasthe equivalent of more than 1 million 250 thousand addresses surveyed. Of all the departments that are undergoing the pre-census, Flores and Rivera are the first departments to complete the process.

When does the census start?

The INA chief reported that the census will start in april and the population will have the possibility of taking a self-census through digital devices. This will allow the census taker to speed up his work since he will only ask the census taker for a code indicating that the form was completed satisfactorily. Otherwise, in April there will be between 6,000 and 7,000 census takers traveling throughout the Uruguayan territory.

On the other hand, Aboal stressed the importance of this information, which is key to the design and orientation of public policies, but which is also useful for private actions. In addition, he announced that the most expected information is about the immigrants since there is no quality information on this part of the population, such as the number, origin, and living and working conditions.
