Turkey earthquake death toll rises to 48,448

It is now 48,448, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said on Monday, according to the state news agency Anadolu. Most recently, Turkey had reported 47,975 fatalities. In total, more than 50,000 people died in the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. On February 6, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 shook southeast Turkey and northwest Syria. Thousands of aftershocks followed. According to the Turkish government, around 20 million people in the country are affected by the effects. The United Nations assumes that around 8.8 million people will be affected in Syria.
