The table tennis Bundesliga team from Askö Glas Wiesbauer Mauthausen completed a marathon weekend. With a win against Biesenfeld and narrow defeats against Innsbruck and Kufstein, the minimum goal was achieved if you look at the game in detail, but one or two more points could have been won. On Friday, the Mauthausen team gave up a 2-0 lead against Innsbruck and lost 4-2 in the end.

On Saturday the game against Biesenfeld rocked back and forth. Luckily for Mauthausen, new signing Ivan Hencl won the decisive game. “We were almost certainly able to avoid the direct descent,” said team captain Bernhard Kinz-Presslmayer with a sigh of relief. The next relegation duel in Wels did not end so well on Sunday. Three times it went into a deciding set, three times it ended with a defeat for the Mühlviertler, who were left empty-handed after the 2:4.

The next fateful game against Kufstein will follow next Saturday. Kinz-Presslmayer: “The Tyroleans are still behind us in the table, but they have strengthened considerably during the winter break. So we don’t exactly go into the game as favourites!”
