Vöcklabruck: According to the head of the AMS, the situation on the labor market is still quite rosy

At Job Week, 60 companies in the Vöcklabruck district open and allow a look behind the scenes.

“At the moment we are still in a very good starting position,” says AMS office manager Karin Gerhardt, describing the situation on the job market in Vöcklabruck. At 4.3 percent, the unemployment rate is below the Upper Austrian average. “We have an extremely large number of vacancies and a constant increase.”

Currently 2700 people are registered as unemployed, at the same time there are 3260 vacancies. The situation is also rosy for the apprentices: 84 young people are looking for an apprenticeship (38 of them immediately). There are 510 vacancies available to you, half of which need to be filled immediately.

“At the moment we don’t have any problem children on the labor market,” states Gerhardt. Even if Lenzing AG – as announced – has to cut 100 employees, the Vöcklabruck AMS boss does not expect a problem.

Companies compete for employees

Problems, on the other hand, are identified by the economy, which lacks workers, and above all skilled workers. With the Job Week starting March 20, 60 companies in the Vöcklabruck district are recruiting employees. “The companies invite you to guided tours, to breakfast in the company, to factory tours or to speed dating for future apprentices,” says WKO district chairman Stephan Preishuber. Trials are also often offered at the company. This is the best opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of work and get to know a profession up close.

In contrast to trade fairs, the companies themselves are the scene of the Job Week. Around 200 events are on the site www.jobweek.at offered in the district of Vöcklabruck, which can be visited. School classes are also invited to visit the companies and experience the world of work together.

“Job Week makes it very easy to gain insights into companies and to find out about working conditions,” Josef Renner, WK district office manager, appreciates the direct contact in a relaxed atmosphere and adds: “The advantage is that those who are interested – without before having to write an application or a CV – can come directly to the company. And company bosses may get to know future employees or apprentices personally.” AMS branch manager Gerhardt also appreciates the low-threshold offer of the upcoming job week: “You can get to know companies in a different way than with applications.”
