The Linz FPÖ would like to make the Südbahnhof market more attractive. Municipal councilor Ute Klitsch complains about the lack of visitors, closed booths and frequent changes of operator. Some booth operators close their shops despite the opening hours set out in the market regulations, which the FPÖ has a certain understanding of, given the number of visitors. You don’t want to badmouth the market, emphasizes FPÖ City Councilor Michael Raml, but “there’s still something in it”.

reform the market order

What exactly is in it, the FPÖ wants to discuss with booth operators, market feeders, visitors, administration and politics. Possible ideas are, for example, more events, a children’s program, shading or drinking fountains for dogs. From a liberal point of view, the sticking point is the market regulation, which, among other things, determines when booths must be open and when not. Raml would like more flexibility here. For example, it is incomprehensible that the catering trade has to close at 1 p.m. on Saturdays and at 7 p.m. on weekdays. The FPÖ could not say how great the suffering is today, with the Südi restaurateurs only being spoken to occasionally in advance.

Market study and ideas competition

With the new staffing of the responsible municipal department (the OÖN reported), the FPÖ now sees a chance for change. The Freedom Party is therefore calling for the preparation of a professional market study and an ideas competition in the municipal council meeting next Thursday. There shouldn’t be any bans on thinking. “The Vienna Naschmarkt could serve as a possible model for the contemporary transformation of the Südbahnhof market from a supply market to a pleasure mile,” said the FPÖ.
