With a rousing cover version and an avalanche of votes that rolled over everything, the students of the Bad Leonfelden high school won the “SIE” challenge announced by the OÖ Nachrichten in December. On Friday the prize of this singing competition was cashed in: a private concert with the Poxrucker Sisters in the music hall of the school.

First of all, Steffi and Magdalena Poxrucker showed a great deal of talent for improvisation. Without their sick sister Christina, the two performed a cross-section of their most successful songs as a duo: from “Sche sa” and “Herzklopfn” to “Glick” and “Sie”, which of course was sung together with the students. “We were really stressed before the performance because we had to practice the verses that usually belong to Christina,” said Magdalena Poxrucker about the guest performance in the Mühlviertel. In this challenge, the two once again proved to be real professionals and casually shook their success stories out of their sleeves.

  • OÖN-TV was at the concert:

Between numbers, the singers took plenty of time to provide insights into their careers, chat about the music business and answer questions. For example after the coolest and biggest gig of her career. “We had our biggest performance at the Woodstock of brass band music. That was overwhelming in every respect. But the smaller gigs usually get under the skin the most, because the connection to the fans is even more intensive here,” said Steffi Poxrucker.

It got really private when we asked what it was like to be on stage as a family. Magdalena Poxrucker: “On stage we understand each other without words. That’s an advantage. It’s more difficult to keep private things and the band apart and not to discuss the next studio session at the Sunday family get-together.” The two obviously enjoyed chatting: “Today I felt like doing more. Maybe we should start a podcast.”

Voices for the common appearance

“We really enjoyed the entire project, although we were under a lot of time pressure in between. Today it was really relaxed and exciting at the same time to listen to the stories and songs of Magdalena and Steffi.”
Barbara Wolfmayr, Music Coordinator BORG Bad Leonfelden

“I was impressed by how perfectly Magdalena and Steffi had their voices under control. There wasn’t a single wrong note. To experience something like this from such a short distance is something unique.”
Samuel Schinko, BORG student from Alberndorf in der Riedmark

“Today’s performance showed once again that something great can happen when you spontaneously get involved with something and just let the music run its course. Compliments to the students for their commitment to the SIE Challenge.”
Steffi Poxrucker, singer

“That was really cool. They both can sing so well. The fact that they then took so much time to answer our questions was the crowning glory of the performance here at our school.”
Tamara Pletzer, BORG student from Gramastetten

“The whole setting today was amazing. You could tell how much our students were captivated by this encounter. Thanks to the Poxrucker Sisters. You don’t often get a chance like this as a school.”
Stefan Kapeller, music teacher at BORG Bad Leonfelden
