It is not uncommon for a foundation stone to be laid. That the guests of honor concrete it themselves is something of a rarity. This is what happened in St. Martin. Education Minister Christine Haberlander herself locked the capsule in which the document laying the foundation stone rests and which was concreted in. Although the new education campus has been under construction since the end of last year, the official laying of the foundation stone for the construction project has only just taken place – which, if it hadn’t been for Corona, should have been finished by now.
The new building combines elementary school, middle school, state music school and cultural hall under one roof. “With this educational campus there are synergies that we can use, which means less space consumption and thus energy savings,” said St. Martin Mayor Manfred Lanzersdorfer, referring to the wood-hybrid construction, the planned photovoltaic system and the local heating connection. After the construction of the elementary school, the middle school will be renovated. The educational campus is scheduled to be completed in August 2024.
investment in the future
Deputy Governor Christine Haberlander was also happy to swing the hammer for the project. After all, the investment of eleven million euros is a good sign: “It is not a matter of course that a municipality invests so much money in education and thus in the children and the future. It is a clear commitment for families,” said Upper Austria’s Education Minister.
