Sport triggers emotions. The outbursts of emotion among fans sometimes know no bounds – both positively and negatively.
In the anonymity of the Internet, hate messages addressed to athletes arise. In order to take a stand against hatred on the Internet, the FC Bayern Munich footballers read out messages they have received themselves in a video (see below).
What the German national team players Thomas Müller, Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka say is shocking and cannot be reproduced uncensored in the video. The German record champions, together with sponsor Telekom, have launched a campaign against the virtual attacks.
“During my time as a professional in the Bundesliga, I experienced what verbal derailments and aggression can do. These hate comments often remain hidden from the public online. We need more transparency here,” says club boss Oliver Kahn.
