As the Detroit Red Wings announced Thursday night, Marco Kasper is in their squad for the NHL game on Saturday night (CEST) at the Winnipeg Jets.
The 18-year-old could be the 18th Austrian to play in the NHL.
Born in Innsbruck, he was drafted by the Red Wings in eighth place in 2022 – higher than any ÖEHV professional before. Kasper completed the current season with the Swedish first division club Rögle. After the Swedes were eliminated from the playoffs, the transfer of the young center to Detroit’s farm team, the Grand Rapids Griffins, became known. Apparently it’s faster now.
The Red Wings missed the playoffs this season, so the eight remaining regular season games are already serving as a build-up for next season. Opportunity for Kasper to advertise on his own behalf.
