Companies increase their banking operations in UI and leave dollars and pesos

The companies increased a 25% the capital allocated to active banking operations in Indexed Units (IU) in February, and the reduced by 18% and 4% in those in Dollars and nominal weightsaccording to the latest Statistical Series of the Superintendency of Financial Services (SSF) of the Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU).

In the case of pesos, the main fall occurred in the Loans with a term of between one month and one yearwhich went from 7,666 million pesos to 7,000 million (-8.68%), while overdrafts increased from 4,540 million pesos to 4,677 million and loans with terms of up to one month remained practically the same as in January.

On the side of the Dollars, the main reduction was seen in the credits with a term of up to one monthwhich went from 180 million dollars to 80 million (-55%), while the credits of period of between one month and one year fell from 1,262 million dollars to 1,057 million (-16.2%) and overdrafts registered a slight decrease and remained at 113 million dollars.

Thus, the 4% drop in total active operations in pesos represented a decrease from the 13,732 million pesos from January to the last 13,158 million pesos registered. The 18% reduction in those that are in dollars implied that in that month the figure fell from 1,635 million dollars to 1,341 million.

For his part, in Indexed Units went from 62 million UI to 78 million –354 million pesos to 446 million pesosat today’s value.

The same phenomenon was seen in the number of active operations, according to the BCU

If the behavior of February is observed based on the number of active trades of the companies, instead of capital, the SSF reported that in that month there were 189 in UIa 58% more than the 120 of the previous month.

While, in pesos fell 8.1% from January 39,649 to February 36,428; while in dollars they went from 22,519 to 20,989, 6.8% less.

Although all sectors of economic activity showed the same trend, if the data is analyzed in detail, it can be seen that the agricultural sector and the one of manufacturing industry showed the main falls in operations in pesos, above that of shops and services.

In dollars, the main reduction was seen in agricultural companies, which in turn was the sector that registered the greatest increase in the number of operations in UI.

In turn, based on the data, it is observed that the smaller the company size, the greater the drop in pesos and dollars and the increase in UI, with the microenterprises as a case of special incidence of this phenomenon.
