At the invitation of Angelika Winzig, head of the ÖVP delegation in the European Parliament, a group of ÖVP officials from their home district of Vöcklabruck visited the EU capital Brussels last week.

The excursion began with a guided tour of the city before the 60 or so visitors were able to talk to Wolfgang Burtscher (Director General for Agriculture and Rural Development) and David Müller (Head of Cabinet of Budget Commissioner Johannes Hahn) in the European Commission.

The next day we went to the European Parliament, where Angelika Winzig gave her compatriots an insight into her work, the way Parliament works and the current challenges. Her Dutch colleague Esther de Lange, Vice-President of the European People’s Party, and her South Tyrolean colleague Herbert Dorfmann met to answer questions about energy, the economy and agriculture. The final point was a visit to the Austrian Permanent Representation in Brussels.

“I’m always particularly pleased when I can welcome colleagues from my home district to Brussels,” says Angelika Winzig. “It was nice to see the interest with which our officials from the communities follow the topic of the EU.”
