Groom died in a bus accident in Schladming: driver error was the cause

A driving error by the bus driver had caused the brakes to overheat. “A technical defect as the cause could be ruled out,” confirmed Andreas Riedler from the Leoben public prosecutor’s office on Wednesday in a corresponding report in the “Kleine Zeitung”. The investigations are now closed.

According to Riedler, there is a short oral report. This leaves no doubt: the driving error of the driver, who died a few days after the accident, was causal. The written report is still pending, but the results will not change.

Groom died in accident

At the end of February, the bus left the road in Rohrmoos near Schladming after going downhill in a curve and fell over an embankment. A 31-year-old German, it was the groom, who was in Styria with his polter round, died at the scene of the accident. The 51-year-old bus driver died in hospital a few days after the crash. He had been in an artificial coma since the accident and could no longer be questioned. However, surviving occupants reported that shortly before the crash over the embankment he warned the passengers: “I can’t brake, hold on tight.”
