Today, FC Blau-Weiß Linz kicks off what is probably the most important month in the club’s history: five rounds are scheduled in the next 30 days in the 2nd soccer league – right at the start of the final phase in the fight for promotion to the Bundesliga, today ( Hofmann-Personal-Stadion, 6.10 p.m.) with FAC Vienna a real feared opponent.
Under Gerald Scheiblehner, the Royal Blues have not scored a point in three duels against the Viennese. “But I’ve already won against FAC with Steyr, so it can’t be my fault,” said Scheiblehner with a smile. In the same breath, the 36-year-old was serious again: “They defend very well, always have a plan ready with the coaching duo of Mitja Mörec and Aleksandar Gitsov. We have to be fully there.”
Not only today – blue and white will not be allowed to fall over in the coming weeks either. Scheiblehner: “Five finals are waiting. We know that we have to win all five games.”
The rest of the program (see below) is – apart from the top game in the coming week at Leader St. Pölten – feasible. Nevertheless, the BW coach warns: “We’ve only lost one game in the last 15 games – and that against the bottom of the table. You can’t underestimate a single team in this league.”
It’s about masterful points
An additional motivation for the blue-white kickers is also a curious point clause: As the OÖN learned, blue-white calculates 45 points per season for all player contracts – if this limit is exceeded, additional point bonuses are only paid out if blue-white too becomes master.
Currently, blue and white (51 points) have already scored six points that would only be paid out with first place at the end of the season – and hopefully a few more will come in the decisive five rounds…
The remaining program of the promotion candidates:
FC Blau-Weiss Linz: FAC Vienna (h), St. Pölten (a), Horn (h), Rapid II (a), Sturm Graz II (h)
