Lula da Silva confirmed that he will join the next summit

Brazilian President Lula da Silvaconfirmed this Friday that he accepted the invitation to participate in the next G7 summit and will join the intergovernmental forum as representative of the main economy of Latin America. The meeting will be May 20 and 21 in Hiroshima, Japan.

In addition to Lula, they were also invited to this G7 summit the leaders of India, Korea, Vietnam, Australia, Comoros and Cook Islands. It is a section of the meeting called “external link” where the progress of the world economy and the geopolitical situation.

The invitation to Lula, who is in London on an official visit for the coronation of King Carlos III, was made two weeks ago by the Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida.

This will be the Lula’s seventh participation as a guest at a G7 summitafter having done so in previous terms between 2003 and 2010.

“Lula’s participation consolidates the perception of balance in the country in the position on sensitive issues on the international scene. Among others, the challenges facing the international community in areas such as peace and security, health, development, gender issues, climate, energy and the environment should be discussed in the external engagement segment of the G7.” , the statement said.

The members of the G7 are United States, Canada, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Germany and Japan.

Lula recalled in the last week that their participation in the G7 summits led to the activation of the Group of 20 (G20), which included developing nations to deal with the global financial crisis originated in the United States with the bankruptcy of the mortgage system.
