The government portfolio expressed that the measure responds to “the situation of persistent drought” in this area of the country, and is intended to “safeguard the water supply to meet the needs of the population“. For it, “OSE has defined drinking water from other sources as a line of action“, which would explain the change in its characteristics and flavor.
The salinization strategy “seeks to preserve continuity of service, as well as avoid contamination by microbiological agents“, as explained by the MSP, which foresees that the measure will be limited in time.
Likewise, the ministry reminded the population that “most of the salt ingested comes from processed foods” such as, for example, sausages and cheeses, and baked goods, so it is recommended to avoid adding salt to food.
