Long before the opening of the new Raiffeisen Arena on the Gugl, there were calls from LASK and politicians to travel to the games by public transport. Many visitors do that too, but there are always problems with “wild parkers”. The lane that is reserved for the shuttle buses on match days is particularly popular with them – parking is prohibited there three hours before, during and one hour after games. As reported, towings are therefore not uncommon.
Now there is an innovation with a digital display in Ziegeleistraße. “With this digital display, we want to create more clarity about the temporary bus lane at major events on the Gugl – when it applies and when it doesn’t,” says Deputy Mayor Martin Hajart (VP), who is responsible for traffic.
More rubbish, new rubbish bins
The city’s urban green and road maintenance division is also “upgrading” around the stadium – as a reaction to the increased amount of waste generated during and after events in the stadium. For example, three new waste bins will be installed in Ziegeleistrasse and around the stadium. The public waste bins are emptied by the employees on the morning after each game. For example, if a game is played on Saturday evening, the rubbish bins are emptied on Sunday morning and a large area is cleaned with the sweeper on Monday.
“Our employees are doing their utmost. Overall, however, we can only keep our city clean if everyone does their part. I appeal to the event visitors to also use the garbage cans that have been set up and not just throw away their rubbish carelessly,” says Eva Schobesberger (Greens), the city councilor for climate protection.
She also points out that the owner is responsible for cleaning the areas directly next to the stadium during games. The LASK would be responsible for the entire car park, the main entrance (bus stop at the Botanical Garden), the sidewalk including the adjacent green area from Ziegeleistraße to the stadium and the sidewalk areas around the “Stadion” leased area.
