A Mercedes caught fire around 4 p.m. on Saturday while driving on the Westautobahn (A1). The driver may have been lucky: according to initial information, he was uninjured.
The man was traveling in the direction of Linz when the fire broke out in the engine compartment. He reacted quickly, steered the car to the hard shoulder and got out before the entire car was on fire.
The Enns and St. Valentin fire brigades came with heavy respiratory protection. Together with police officers and Asfinag employees, the firefighters secured the scene of the accident. The result was traffic obstructions in the area of the Enns junction.
