While in Comparative QSince 2022, 2,438 people in Linz still received social benefits, the figure fell by almost 20 percent to 1,993 people in the first quarter of this year. 48 percent of all recipients are Austrian citizens, another 39 percent are recognized refugees. The group of EU citizens and other third-country nationals makes up 12 percent of all recipients.

This also reduces the costs for the city of Linz. In the first quarter of 2023, total expenditure was around 2.2 million euros. In the comparative period of 2022, these were still 2.6 million euros, in the first quarter of 2017 the costs for the city of Linz were even around 3.9 million euros.
Deputy Mayor Karin Hörzing (SP) sees the reason for the ongoing decline in the good economic situation. The labor market in Linz also recovered quickly from the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
