As reported, the lift operation is on the Kasberg before the end. Despite millions in funding from the state, Almtal-Bergbahnen GmbH has made losses in the past two years. A deficit compensation should only be made if the eight-person gondola can be used for summer tourism in the future in order to be able to generate additional income. However, the proposals continue to fail due to the veto of five large landowners.

A petition from regional ski clubs calling for the preservation of the ski area has received around 30,000 signatures in the past few weeks. According to the initiators, the cessation of skiing on the Kasberg would have serious consequences for the entire region. Without tourists, jobs would be lost, businesses would have to close and people would emigrate. As a result, municipalities would collect fewer municipal taxes and require financial aid.

Specifically, the petition by Governor Thomas Stelzer (VP) calls for, among other things, a commitment to continue lift operation for the 2023/24 winter season and a resumption of negotiations for year-round use of the local recreation area.

For June 3rd, the initiators have announced a march together with hundreds of supporters from Linz main station via Landstrasse to Landhaus. There the collected signatures are to be handed over to the governor.
