Postponed is not cancelled. Gmunden’s basketball players cannot yet crown themselves as champions in the third Superliga final “at home” on Saturday (5.30 p.m.). The OCS Swans lost in Vienna against the reigning champions BC Vienna 67:79 (41:41) and thus had to accept the 1:1 equalization in the best-of-5 series.
The man of the evening was a player who had worn the Upper Austrian jersey from 2006 to 2021. Enis Murati led the capital club with an impressive performance on the road to victory. The 34-year-old had 30 points (ten of them in the first 144 seconds) and four rebounds. This time he overshadowed Gmunden star Urald King (18 points, eleven picked balls).
After changing sides, the Swans struggled with a sobering shooting rate, 26 points in 20 minutes are simply not enough. “We were too far away from our best form, we have to improve significantly,” said coach Anton Mirolybov, whose team had led 21:13 in the first quarter after an 11:0 run.
But BC Vienna, who again had to pass the 2.08 meter national team center Jozo Rados because of back problems, fought back in front of 800 spectators in the Hallmann Dome and pulled away to 72:55 at the beginning of the last section. This broke Gmunden’s resistance and sealed the first defeat in Vienna after three successes en suite.
